Arsenal and Manchester City face off today at the Emirates in one of the most crucial matches of the season which could end City’s title aspirations for the season if Arsenal emerge triumphant.
With a lot riding on this encounter between the two huge teams of the Premier League, here are three predictions for what you can expect from the action on the pitch today.
1. Arsenal To Win
Manchester City come into this match as the favourite but on paper and not on current form. City are ahead of Arsenal on points but on current form Arsenal have played way better than City, who have been struggling off late. Arsenal are no longer in the race of the Premier League but there is motivation for the Gunners to win today’s clash.
A win for the London club will see them move above their arch rivals Tottenham in third place and a step closer towards their basic target of qualifying for the Champions League next year. Manchester City, on the hand won’t be easy to overcome, as they have some motivation of their own. Anything less than a win at the Emirates will see them fall further behind Manchester United in the title race (if United beat QPR at Old Trafford) and may also virtually end their title challenge for the season.
Arsenal have a very good record at the Emirates and so look out for the Gunners to come out with an all-out attack from the first minute itself. Arsene Wenger’s side won’t be looking for a draw.
2. Robin van Persie To Score A Brace
Robin van Persie has been in the form of his life this season and is a top contender for the PFA Player of the Year Award. Wenger has also been campaigning for Van Persie to win the award and today the Dutch striker will have a great chance to prove his coach right. He has already found the back of the net 26 times this season in the Premier League and I expect him to add a couple of more to that number today.
Van Persie has alway risen to the occasion when needed and has score some important goals against the top teams (Manchester United, Tottenham, Liverpool & Chelsea) this season and expect that to happen again today against Manchester City.
3. Manchester City Will Fail To Score
Manchester City have a very good goal scoring record and are the 2nd best goal scorers in the league this season. So far this season, City have scored 2.42 goals per game, while Arsenal have conceded 1.32 goals per game.
Looking at the stats above you expect City to score and Arsenal to concede and so it makes this prediction the boldest of the three. I have a funny gut feeling which says Arsenal will defend well today and keep a clean sheet.
Final Score: Arsenal 2-0 Manchester City
